New Tools

Here are a couple new designs I have made here recently. These were ground from 1/8" thick O-1 tool steel.

8/8 Spanish Point in Horn

Here is a razor that I just finished up this morning. It is an 8/8 and has horn scales with a purple heart wedge. The razor is pinned with brass rod and stainless washers. The length of the cutting edge is 2.75" long. The razor was ground from 1/4" O-1 steel stock.

Here is a French Point 6/8+ razor in O-1 steel, pinned with brass rod and stainless steel washers. This blade sports a set of black walnut scales that were finished in mineral oil.

Custom Pry Tool and Cord Cutter

I was commissioned to make this tool by a customer from Etsy and it turned out to be a neat tool and experience. The tool was a collaboration between myself and a teenager from Georgia that had seen my tools and came up with a tool of his own design to have me make. With a few tweaks to his design, this is what we came up with. There is a prying end, cord cutting notch and a pointed tail-end to break glass (i.e. escape tool).

Straight Razor in O-1 and Zebrano Wood

I ground this blade recently and am looking forward to shaving with it this week. I will get it back from being honed hopefully mid-week.

First Straight Razor 6/8 in O-1 steel with Purple Heart Scales

I ground this blade from 3/16" thick O-1 tool steel using a 10" contact wheel on a KMG grinder. The scales were made using purple heart and the blade was pinned with brass rod, stainless steel washers and polyethylene washers on the inside of the scales.  This razor was honed by Doc226 and is an amazing shaver. I instantly started a second razor that follows these lines with the exception of a few dimensions.

Backpacking Knife

Here is a new knife I just completed yesterday. The knife is ground from 1/8" thick O-1 tool steel and is fitted with canvas Micarta scales an stainless tube pins. The knife measures 7" OAL. This is the first knife that I made using my new KMG grinder  from Beaumont Metal Works and also my first attempt at a flat grind.

EDC Pry Tool

I have been branching out a bit from the bottle openers when I have a chance and I made this 1/2" wide x 2 1/2" long key chain pry tool from O-1 tool steel. One end features a stout prying edge and the other end has one of the corners ground to be a standard screwdriver. This is a nice addition to the key ring to pry things, especially when you don't want to use your finger nails in -2 degree weather.

New Bottle Opener

Here is a new bottle opener pry tool that I just made a prototype of a few days ago. It is made from precision ground O-1 tool steel and measures 1/2" wide x 2 1/2" long and its 1/8" thick.

More Bottle Openers

I now have  a couple of bottle opener pry tools in stock now for sale through my Etsy store. I am trying to get ahead of the game before our new baby arrives this month.

Bottle Opener

I have been making more of these for my Etsy store. Currently, I am doing them on a made to order basis, but will be stocking some up soon as I get more time. These, like the others are O1 precision ground bar stock that is 1/8" x 3/4" x 3".

Backpacking Knife?

I just finished this knife today. I like to think of it as a backpacking knife because its big enough to get most jobs done, but is definitely smaller and lighter than a traditional 'bushcraft' knife. It is made from O-1 tool steel and it measures  7" long and has a 3" flat-ground blade. The handle is affixed with epoxy resin and hollow stainless tube pins. The spine of the knife was grooved with a checkering file to enhance the grip. I am not sure what kind of wood it is, but it is a hardwood with an open grain and it is finished with gloss, marine spar urethane.  I am happy with how it turned out.

Neck Knife

Here is a knife made from 0.125" thick O-1 tool steel that was designed to be carried as a neck knife on a bead chain as pictured above or on a key ring. It measures 3" long and the blade is convex ground on one side only and has a 1.25" long cutting edge. The sheath is simple fold over Kydex sheath with holes drilled for neck or key ring carry.

Here is a knife I made this summer from O-1 flat ground tool steel. It measures 7.5" long overall, with a 3.5" blade. The blade has a 11 degree bevel grind on each side with a steeper micro-bevel at the very edge. The handle is purpleheart wood affixed with epoxy and brass and copper pins. The wood is finished with melted wax and then hand buffed.
